Goodbye 2006
This was the best whatever of 2006:
I’m off to drink mass quantities of booze. See you in 2007, or whenever the coma wears off.
1 comment2006 New Year Resolutions — did I keep them?
I bet none of you are wondering if I kept my New Year Resolutions for 2006! Here’s what happened:
- Stop taking pictures of myself wearing sun glasses indoors and then posting them on Myspace like some 15 year old Bam Margera wannabe. YES! , I kept this resolution. I now look like Bill Clinton! (:oF
- Lose another 40 pounds. I lost 20 pounds in 2006.
- Get my blood pressure down to 120. No clue about this — I should go for a yearly physical soon. That said, I think my blood pressure registers as higher than normal because my doctor is a pretty lady.
- Exercise. I kept this resolution, more or less. I’m not working out in a gym, but I’ve gone on plenty of hikes and walks and other “old dude” types of exercise.
- Quit music. This was crazy — if anything I listened to more music than every before — thanks to iTunes, Bleep.com, lala.com, sharity sites… What was I thinking???
- Drink More. YES!
- Find a new hobby. YES. I actually went on a bunch of hikes, so hiking was my new hobby for 2006.
- Travel more. NO! I only went to New York in 2006. Lame.
- Use more emoticons. Here you go: I’m bringing back the “Bill Clinton eating French fries emoticon”: (:oF

Comments are off for this post30 months of Net Neutrality
AT&T merged with BellSouth, and as part of their agreement with the FCC (and technically with we the people), they agreed to accept Net Neutrality for at least the next 30 months. This doesn’t mean Verizon and Comcast will play along, or that AT&T won’t be working on their internal strategies in the mean time, but for now, it’s a victory.
From the AT&T Files Additional Proposed Merger Commitments document (PDF, hosted on fcc.gov)
Net Neutrality
1. Effective on the Merger Closing Date, and continuing for 30 months thereafter, AT&T/BellSouth will conduct business in a manner that comports with the principles set forth in the Commission’s Policy Statement, issued September 23, 2005 (FCC 05-151).2. AT&T/BellSouth also commits that it will maintain a neutral network and neutral routing in its wireline broadband Internet access service. 15 This’ commitment shall be satisfied by AT&T/BellSouth’s agreement not to provide or to sell to Internet content, application, or service providers, including those affiliated with AT&T/BellSouth, any service that privileges, degrades or prioritizes any packet transmitted over AT&T/BellSouth’s wireline broadband Internet access service based on its source, ownership or destination.
This commitment shall apply to AT&T/BellSouth’s wireline broadband Internet access service from the network side of the customer premise equipment up to and including the Internet Exchange Point closest to the customer’s premise, defined as the point of interconnection that is logically, temporally or physically closest to the customer’s premise where public or private Internet backbone networks freely exchange Internet packets.
More information about Net Neutrality at Save the Internet (sorry to Verizon and Comcast customers, in case those ISPs block the site).

Comments are off for this postOkay, this is the last fun post of the year
Bubblegum Fink’s Star Wars Christmas Special Trading Cards.
Britney Spears toes are obese. “Toebese” is my new favorite word.
2007 release movie trailers:
How about a trailer for a book The Dog Dialed 911
Probably the last fun post of the year
Cartoons: John K’s Joe Barbera tribute, part 1. Joe Barbara as in Hanna Barbera cartoons. Joe recently passed away.
New adult swim shows: Saul of the Mole Men and Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show — looks like adult swim is doing the Sid and Marty Kroft thing now. John K would probably stab me for posting a link to his site next to a link to a Tim and Eric show.
Comedy: The infamous Bill Hicks “Loses It” Show. Not Safe For Work.
Folks, it’s only gonna get worse: Orwellian Moments of 2006.
Swap mixtapes: The International Mixtape Project.
Comics comedy: Losing Lois Lane.
Guilty pleasure: Last Night’s Party photo blog.
Music: Free classical MP3s.
Wacky: Wacky Packages sticker art.
Funny commercials: Very Funny Ads. Some of these very funny advertisements are not safe for work (unless you work outside of America, where people aren’t so uptight).
Finally, a non-annoying use for a leaf blower.
Need some wacky retro video action: Try the Bedazzled blog.
Comments are off for this postJohann and Owen: two reasons to keep your #1 New Years Resolution

Read this article about caloric restriction and longevity. Scientists gave Johann the monkey a calorie-limited diet, but they let Owen eat a high-calorie diet. The results are easy to see: Johann looks healthy and alert, and Owen looks obese, miserable and many years older than Johann.
The point: it’s time to keep your New Years resolution and lose some weight and keep it off with a low calorie diet. Time to limit your sugary coffees, tacos (you’ve probably stopped eating tacos already), buttery cookies, high-calorie beers, greasy pizza, fancy-pants ice cream, sweet candy, etc.

James Brown, RIP
James Brown has passed away at the age of 73. We’ve lost another legend:
James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured “Godfather of Soul,” whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.
A moment of silence, and then enjoy this:

Comments are off for this postBest music of 2006: the rest…
Bands:
Wolfmother
Like Jack from the White Stripes singing for Deep Purple.
Minibosses
Nintendo music played by a prog rock band.
Ladyhawk
Not the comic book character. I guess you’d call them indie rock. You can call them awesome too.
Boris
Not the Badinoff. Japanese doom metal. Their new album Pink is the balm.
Barbecue Bob and the Spareribs
Real Psychobilly from New Jersey. Pick up their new album Burning Sensation!
Ministry
Managed to release their best album in over a decade, and the best metal album of the year.
Best sharity post:

Comments are off for this postKANCHO!
I love Japanese culture. I enjoy anime, bands like Puffy AmiYumi and Boris, sushi, video games, Black Black gum, and Godzilla. One thing I’m not ready for is kancho.
What is kancho, you ask? Read the Wikipedia article or visit kancho.org — IF YOU DARE! Warning: in America, kancho will get you fired from your job, as well as a brief stay in jail.
Comments are off for this postHey kids, here comes the Krampus!
Here’s the deal: back in the day Santa used to ride around with a character named the Krampus. The Krampus was sort of a anti-Santa: dishing out punishment to wicked children, while Santa rewarded the good kids. What the world needs now is a little Krampus.
The Venture Bros Christmas Special featuring the Krampus. Fun to watch for the parody of the old 976 Santa phone lines.
A recent blog post about the companions of Saint Nicholas.
A Wikipedia article on the (not so nice) companions of Saint Nicholas, featuring a picture of the Krampus.
Krampus.com, with a nice bio of the Krampus.

When I was 30 years younger, the Evil Knievil Super Stunt Set was the coolest toy to own. Now you can buy it from Back to Basics Toys.
