Russ Meyer made some of the most intreging movies of the 20th century. My favorite Russ Meyer movie is his lest prurient film, Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill!.
The one and only Russ Meyer, director of cult movie classics Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Mudhoney, The Immoral Mr. Teas, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Vixen, Supervixens, Up! and Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens. You must see his movies!
Russ Meyer Factoids:
- Russ was born in Oakland, California on March 21st, 1922.
- Russ served in the Army during W.W.II and spent most of his time documenting the war on film.
- Russ lost his virginity in a French brothel, an excursion arranged by none other than Ernest Hemingway. After the war Russ found it nearly impossible to get a job as a cinematographer so he started taking "cheesecake pin-up pictures". Russ eventually took photos for Playboy.
- By the late 1950's Russ decided to produce his own films. Russ enlisted young Chicago film reviewer Roger Ebert to write the scripts for Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens.
- Russ Meyer discoveries that went on to work in Hollywood films include: Charles Napier (Rambo II, Austin Powers), Pam Grier (Foxy Brown, Jackie Brown) and Stuart Lancaster (Edward Scissorhands).
- Russ Meyer aliases include: "King Leer", "the Walt Disney of Porn", "the Nudie King" and B. Callum.
- Russ Meyer has never made a hard core porno.
Here's a photo of Faster Pussycat star Tura Satana (R.I.P.) twisting my arm. If you've seen the movie, this is funny.
