Clark Kent is, of course, the possibly-fictional superhero Superman. <\/p>\n<p>The rest area is, overall, quite pleasant and features landscaped grounds, a clean bathroom (I can&#8217;t say clean bathrooms (plural) because I only visited the men&#8217;s bathroom), and an informative educational display about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emeraldashborer.info\/\">Emerald Ash Borer<\/a> insects (which destroy ash trees).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dancentury.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/emerald-ash-borer.jpg\" alt=\"Emerald Ash Borer\" width=\"505\" height=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dancentury.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/emerald-ash-borer.jpg 505w, https:\/\/www.dancentury.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/emerald-ash-borer-253x300.jpg 253w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The grounds also feature Brood XXIII periodical cicadas, but the next time you&#8217;ll be able to observe them there is in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Last visited: May 24th, 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fort Massac Rest Area (37.159140, -88.679758) welcomes you to Metropolis, Illinois, the town Clark Kent works in.
